Latin America’s Fastest-Growing Real Estate Platform Chooses Oxitec’s Friendly™ Aedes to Protect Residential Customers from Dengue Mosquitoes
We’re excited to announce this week an innovative new partnership between Oxitec and Brazil’s leading real estate platform, QuintoAndar, to protect around 150,000 QuintoAndar residential customers in the city of São Paulo from the invasive dengue mosquito, Aedes aegypti. A new, limited-edition design of Oxitec’s just-add-water Friendly™ Aedes product has been designed to serve customer households and, as the project rolls out, product giveaways and special events will engage and support residents in their alliance against the dengue mosquito.
To support the “Houses Against Aedes” campaign, QuintoAndar released a short video raising awareness about the Aedes aegypti mosquito and how Oxitec’s Friendly™ Aedes product can help to combat this threat.
Featured in the video is campaign ambassador and nationally renowned doctor, Dr Drauzio Varella, who commented, “Self-limiting mosquitoes are new allies in the fight against Aedes aegypti.”
Grey Frandsen, Oxitec’s CEO, commented “That one of Brazil’s most respected and dynamic companies has selected our biological solution to protect its customers is a huge vote of confidence for us and a big boost to our efforts to inspire a broader range of stakeholders to participate in fighting this mosquito. Our national launch in Brazil over the last few months has been thrilling – we’re serving households, businesses and cities across the country – and with QuintoAndar, we’re honoured to have the attention of millions of people across Brazil.”
Oxitec’s new solutions are safe, environmentally sustainable, and the first of a new generation of technologies that will empower everyone to participate in the fight against the dengue mosquito. Oxitec’s products are simple, non-toxic, designed to be used by anyone, and deployed in a range of locations.
QuintoAndar aims to expand the program by distributing Friendly™ Aedes aegypti products free of charge to the first 200 people signed up on the Houses Against Aedes movement web page. That was achieved in a number hours, and a backlog now exists. People who wish to join the fight against the mosquito will also be able to buy their own Friendly™ Aedes aegypti products in retail stores and from Oxitec’s partnered professional pest control companies like Rentokil, Grupo Expansao, Bioseta, Prime, and others.
Oxitec’s solution is now being deployed throughout Brazil by a range of customers, including by some of Brazil’s largest companies and institutions, shopping centers, transportation providers, sports teams, cities, large-scale employers, and more, which highlights the demand by the private sector for novel and sustainable solutions to combat the dengue mosquito.
“This partnership represents a new model for how to inspire millions of people to take action against disease-spreading mosquitoes. We’ve combined our national launch with a unique collaboration with a popular brand, innovative calls to action, new uses of digital platforms, new calls to action, and a joyful and exciting experience, all of which inspire the public and other stakeholders to join in the fight against dengue mosquitoes. We’re pleased with the results of this campaign, but we’re particularly excited that we’ve begun changing mindsets, and we’ve made mosquito control “cool””, said Frandsen. “We’re not taking the typical pest control industry path of marketing insecticide spray cans, coils, or rackets. We’re building beautiful, joyful, sustainable products that people love and want to use. If we’re successful, this could be a major shift in our fight against mosquito-transmitting diseases,” he said. “We’re just getting started.”
