Oxitec Brazil

Oxitec Brazil have been deploying our self-limiting Friendly™ Aedes solution in Brazil since 2011. In 2019 we began a partnership with the Wellcome Trust and the city of indaiatuba to deploy Oxitec’s next-generation Friendly™ Aedes aegypti. In 2022 our second scale-up season began.

In 2022, Oxitec’s Friendly™ Aedes aegypti was made available to customers across Brazil through commercial relationships with leading pest control companies, and distribution partners that deploy the product in every state in Brazil.

The FKMCD – Oxitec Mosquito Project

Following an established, decade-long relationship, the Florida Keys Mosquito Control (FKMCD)-Oxitec Mosquito Project began in April 2021, releasing and evaluating the effectiveness of Oxitec’s Friendly™ Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to control the invasive, disease-spreading Aedes aegypti mosquito in the Florida Keys.

Following two seasons of successful pilot deployments, the FKMCD-Oxitec Mosquito Project will launch its 2023 season in early April 2023

The Delta MVCD - Oxitec Mosquito Project

Since first being detected in 2013 in California, invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes have spread to more than 25 counties throughout the state increasing the risk of transmission of dengue, chikungunya, Zika, yellow fever and other diseases. Oxitec is working with local and state-wide partners to prepare for making its Friendly™ Aedes aegypti solution available to Californians.

The Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands has selected Oxitec’s Friendly™ Aedes aegypti solution for a new pilot intervention to control the invasive disease-spreading mosquito, Aedes aegypti.

The project is a partnership between the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Pacific Island Health Officers’ Association (PIHOA), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Oxitec.

Oxitec Panama

From April to October 2014, Oxitec worked with the Gorgas Institute to carry out a project to suppress local Aedes aegypti using our 1st Generation Friendly™ Aedes aegypti.

In April 2023 Oxitec launched a new phase of its malaria program in the Americas; establishing a team in Panama with the aim of preparing for future pilots of Friendly™ mosquitoes to combat the dominant malaria-spreading mosquito in Central America.

In Panama, malaria transmission continues to threaten lives in many rural areas. Innovative solutions are needed to combat the most important malaria-carrying mosquito in rural Panama, due to increasing resistance to insecticides and traditional vector control methods.
