New: Study of Oxitec’s Friendly™ Mediterranean Fruit Fly Technology Shows Successful Suppression of Wild-type Population While Protecting Fruit Quality and Potential Marketable Yield
Oxitec is pleased to announce the publication of a new research paper about its 2nd generation Mediterranean Fruit Fly. Published in April 2019 in the International Journal of Pest Management, the paper outlines the effectiveness of Oxitec’s medfly in both suppressing wild-type medfly and preserving fruit quality. The study was conducted in Morocco in open-air screenhouses, successfully demonstrating the technology’s potential valuable role in future integrated pest management programs or as a potential stand-alone pest control program. The study also looked at competitiveness and operational questions relating to deployment, and sets the stage for further open-field studies with Oxitec’s medfly.
The paper can be found here.
