Jackson Nyrarko

Field Operations Manager, Djibouti

Jackson joined Oxitec in November 2022 as Field Operations Manager, for Oxitec’s Djibouti Anopheles operations. He manages Oxitec’s staff in Djibouti and coordinates Oxitec collaborations with local partners in the evaluation and deployment of Oxitec technologies against the Anopheles stephensi in the Horn of Africa.

Jackson has a BSc and and MPhil degrees in Conservation Biology and Entomology from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. After school he served his university as teaching and research assistant at the Department of Conservation Biology and Entomology.

Before Oxitec, Jackson consulted for ACDI/VOCA as a Field Entomologist on a USAID Feed The Future ADVANCE I Programme where he provided training and support to famers against the 2017 Fall Armyworm invasion in Northern Ghana. He then worked with CREC/LSHTM and the Ministry of Health of Benin as Research Assistant in laboratory evaluation of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spray (IRS) products; Deputy Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that the facility’s studies and quality systems complied with the OECD principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and most recently as Communications Officer for public engagements and interfacing between the facility and its affiliates institutions like LSHTM, RSTMH, RBM VCWG, PAMCA.
